She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land but ultimately places her life – and her father’s crown – in jeopardy. The youngest of King Triton’s daughters and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea and, while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric. While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. “The Little Mermaid” is the beloved story of Ariel, a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst for adventure. It's also just boring to watch one goblin take a minute to walk across the entire screen. To top it off, the goblins can also only move one at time, so you can't queue up another action while one is taking place, which makes executing some of the puzzle solutions fairly difficult. ![]() ![]() What's even worse is that there's a "sweet spot" you'll need to select on larger objects, like a pile of rocks, and if you don't hit it, nothing will happen. There are plenty of nit-picky problems with the controls in Gobliiins: in order to get the technician to pick something up, sometimes you'll need to rearrange the other goblins to get out of your way and instead of utilizing an item on an object in the world, the technician often drops it and stares at you. If there was some consistency with this rule it wouldn't be so bad, but there's not. Sometimes clicking on an area will prompt your goblin to travel there, but other times they will completely ignore you and will only move once you select an area closer to them to snap them out of their stupor. They're poorly implemented and therefore incredibly frustrating. The biggest problem in Gobliiins isn't that the lack of explanation or whacked-out puzzle solutions, it's the controls. Luckily, you can just start the level over. If the bar gets to zero, it's game over for you. If something (like a zombie) scares one of the goblins or they get hit by a rock, spell, etc. Play What makes it worse is that a lot of things lying around the levels will either terrify or harm your little buddies, making it difficult to explore freely. Puzzles range from the mundane, like giving a vicious dog some meat to chew on, to the absurd, like trapping a small bird with a windsock for some unknown purpose. Here, you'll struggle in the dark, grasping at straws, which wouldn't be so bad if the solutions didn't seem so random. This excerpt from the hints pretty much sums up the whole Gobliiins experience (well, minus the word 'tree'): "This is confusing…what's the purpose of this tree?" Now, I grew up playing adventure games, so I'm no stranger to wacky puzzles and baffling solutions, but when playing them I understood what the general goal was. Set up as a friendly conversation between two people, the hints are basically walkthroughs sectioned in-between logical questions a player would have. This means you'll probably find yourself heading to the "hint" section, which even admits how perplexing the game's structure is. A few levels have comprehensible goals, but for the most part there's no direction what-so-ever. That's what happens in Gobliiins – you're dropped in a level and are just supposed to figure out what to do by messing around. ![]() Although it's not impossible to solve a jigsaw puzzle without looking at the box first, it's pretty damn hard. That's a fine enough premise for this type of game, but what's troublesome is the lack of communication about your goal in the puzzle levels. ![]() Though the kingdom doesn't understand what's happening to the poor king, the three little goblins journey to find a cure. The story of Gobliiins revolves around the King Goblin being tortured by a mysterious person with a voodoo doll. ![]()
